Commentary: First Communion Revealed
The following is a more complete understanding of what Jesus said and did during the Last Supper. It was then that He took a 1,500 year old shadow prophecy founded during the Exodus, and re-sanctified it. Now it became actualized as an eternal memorial concerning a new and more perfect covenant to be consummated through His death, burial and resurrection. This commentary was accomplished by creating a compilation of the four Gospels, and the completely overlooked recounting of this historic event as cited by the Apostle Paul.
Jesus held His last supper with His disciples on Thursday, April 2nd, 33 AD. This was the day before His crucifixion which occurred on the morning of Friday, April 3rd. The Feast of Passover would take place Friday evening at sunset. As host of this meal, He would have been sitting at the head of the table. He took a loaf of hard unleavened matzah bread, gave thanks to God, blessed it, then broke it and gave it to the disciples saying, “…take, and eat; For This is My body which is given and broken for you: Do this in remembrance of Me. ”(Matthew 26:26; Mark 14:22; Luke 22:19; 1 Corinthians 11:24) He then said, “… I say to you, I will not eat anymore according to the shadow ordinances of ceremonial law {7 Jewish Feasts} as they are now fulfilled in the Kingdom of God.” (Matthew 26:29; Luke 22:16) “In this same way, He also took the cup {of Passover wine}, and when He had given thanks, He sipped of it, then gave it to His disciples saying, ….Take this and divide it among yourselves {each take a sip}, and all of you drink of it; For this cup is the New Covenant/Testament {consummated by My Blood shed on cross} in My blood which is shed for you and many {all generations} for the remission of {all} sins.” (Matthew 26:27-28; Mark 14:23-24; Luke 22:17; John 6:53-54; I John 1:7, 5:6; I Corinthians 11:25) He then said, “I say to you that I will not drink again of this fruit of the vine {4th Passover Cup of Praise}, until the Kingdom of God shall come. And on that day I will drink it new with you in My Father’s Kingdom.” (Matthew 26:29; Luke 22:18) He then said, “… This you are to do {conduct Communion}, and as often as you drink it {when you take Communion}, do so in remembrance of me {what I accomplished on the cross}.” (I Corinthians 11:25) “For as often as you eat this bread and drink this cup you will show {by this remembrance and affirmation} the Lord’s death until He {I} returns.” (I Corinthians 11:26) And when the meal ended, and they had sung a Passover hymn, He came out of the house followed by His disciples and led them, as He desired, directly into the Mount of Olives." (Matthew 26:30; Mark 14:26; Luke 22:39; John 18:1)
Jesus was arrested around midnight by the Temple Guard only hours after the Last Supper. He was first tried by the retired High Priest Annas in his mansion. He was then tried by the current High Priest Caiaphas in his mansion. In attendance were the Chief Priests, Scribes {teachers} and various religious leaders. He was found guilty of blasphemy for agreeing that He was the Son of God, and beaten by the priests. At sunrise Friday morning April 3rd, He was taken to be judged by the Sanhedrin who agreed that He was guilty of blaspheme. He was then taken to Pilate who was the current Roman military ruler over the Judaean territory. Pilate initially found Him innocent, but had Him flogged to quite a crowd that was demanding His death. The crowd was not satisfied and the priests told Pilate that Jesus considered Himself a King. Pilot went back to Jesus who confirmed He was a King. Pilate then found Him guilty of sedition, had Him flogged a second time and crucified at 9:00 a.m. This was also the time of the Temple’s morning sacrifice of a lamb without blemish. He would die at 3:00 p.m. the time of the Temple’s evening sacrifice.
His corpse was quickly embalmed with spices and entombed around 5:00 p.m., just before sunset and the start of the Passover of 33 AD. According to modern astronomy, a full Blood Moon arose over Jerusalem that evening.
